Recently I’ve been thinking about the quality of games compared to their price.  It’s not very often I would consider a game to be of great quality and good value for money (yes, yes, it’s my opinion).  If you look at the amount of games which are being pumped out these days, all share a common price tag, but the quality isn’t there.  But you’re darn tootin’ the price is high and painful on the wallets.

Games like Imagine Babiez/Horsez/Horsez with Babiez/Horsez with Babiez’ Horsez seem to come out every other day which im sure are just copies of the first game they produced from the depths of hell and spun out with a different wrapper.

I’m not just picking on those either.  Movie to video games also get my attention.  In their rush to get the game out before the movie hits or whatever you sometimes see shiny graphics of a would-be stickman who doesn’t seem to move right unless he’s been on a 2 week bender and see’s the world in some strange technicolour dream state.

All this, in my eyes, must add to the piracy of the gaming industry.  I mean let’s say the average game costs you £40 or $60 and some cowboy developer pumps out games which seem like they did them in their lunch hour.  Should they still be valued at the £40/$60 seeing as the quality isn’t there, or what should the value be?

But this raises the piracy issue.  If people feel they arn’t getting value for their money and have the means, I’m sure they will go the other route if they really want to try the sub-standard production game.

Again, not to poke fun at the Imagine series (however how bad it is), if you saw Imagine Bikez on the shelf, right next to it being Final Fantasy XXVI for the same price, which one do you think has the most time and money spent on it ?

I, for one, rarely spend £30/$50 on a game.  If anything I find the £10-20/$20-30 price range more reasonable and more value for money.

These crazy people and their prices.  I guess the most shocking thing is someone must be buying the god awful games at crazy prices.  But I must say it’s not always clear if you’re getting value for money.  I too have had times when i’ve spent out for what seemed to be that must have game to find out it’s a complete pile of rubbish you wouldn’t even give away as a gift!

My advice, read up all you can before making that purchase and hopefully you get your value/gaming for money!
