I hear lists are a big thing in blogging, so here’s another half-baked list I made up for you to stave away a few minutes of boredom.

Welcome to your Guide To Video Game Princesses.  I’ve listed some common traits for those princesses found in video games.  Some princesses fit into more than one trait, but I shove’m into the one that resembles them most.  I’ll start an info page separate to this list if you want more to read, but that will be under construction as I read up more on some of the princesses (since I haven’t played every game these princesses came from).

Not every princess is listed, so if you ever have a princess I could add into the list or you were actually amused by this list, feel free to comment!

The Typical Princess

These are the princesses that rarely, if ever, do anything for themselves apart from get kidnapped, captured, or married off to the first guy who bothers to rescue them.  Pretty faces always getting into trouble.

The Spoiled Brat Princess

If these girls weren’t royalty, no one would bother dealing with them.  These are the brats of the royal world that have nothing better to do than torment whomever comes across them with their selfish demands.  These princesses can turn out to be the baddies, especially if a sister gets all the attention or power.  If heroes weren’t such good guys, I’m sure they’d be tempted to let any of these girls stay kidnapped, were they taken away.

The Atypical Princess

Unlike The Typical Princess, these princesses know how to fight and aren’t afraid to show it.  Why wait for the hero when they can just as easily fend for themselves?  Rarely do these girls play the victim, even when kidnapped.  Strong (with a soft side at times), brash, these girls stand up for themselves and for what they believe in.  Regardless, you probably wouldn’t want to meet a few of them on their bad days in a darkened alley.

Anti-Princess / Incognito Princess

The Anti-Princess / Incognito Princess results when a princess runs away, foregoing her title and kingdom for some reason or another.  Some prefer to ditch the pomp and circumstance of their titles to pursue other adventures or to escape the pressures of their lineage, but some have to revert to this title to escape death or persecution.  Usually the change is temporary, but when a princess grows accustomed to life outside the royal formalities, the change becomes permanent.  Atypicals and Drama Princesses are prone to turning into Anti or Incognito Princesses.

The Drama Princess

Usually this princess is in turmoil due to being pawns over politics or family affairs (that are usually about politics).  The turmoil boils down to being forcefully married off, people close to them dieing, greedy relatives, wars, the end of the world or any other number of convoluted mishaps.  These girls don’t bring drama because they want it, they’re just surrounded by it because of their circumstances.  The girls who go through a bad day every time they wake up.

The Chameleon Princess

These princesses are reincarnated time and again, sometimes with different traits, personalities, or looks, born in different times, areas, or families, but still retaining some kind of similarity to link her to her other selves.  Girls who have alternate lives depending on choices made, or who have split personality type personas, can also fit into this category, since the girl from every outcome started from the same beginning.

The Mistaken Princess / The Not-Really-A-Princess Princess

The girls in this category may or may not be actual princesses, but call themselves one, or are called one by others because they act like one, have a position similar to that of a princess, or mistakenly look like a girl who is a princess.

The Forgettable Princess

These girls are the ones you probably forgot existed, or were upstaged by some heroine, a princess from a more relevant country to the plot, or their elder/younger sisters.  These poor princesses are the royalty that, if they ended up with anyone, it would be with the heroes’ friends.

The Marketable Princess

Princesses in video games that only exist because these girls make money.  They were princesses before they became video game characters, coming from other mediums, be it a movie, a book, or whatnot.  A princess is a princess is a princess and these come in PC, handheld, and console forms.
