PSP: LocoRoco 2 Review
Welcome to the wonderful land of bouncing singing colourful loco’s! And it’s just as happy sounding as the first!
Let’s start out at the beginning. What’s new, you ask? Well first of all, the whole game seems to play out in a slightly different way, not in a bad way, I just want to point it out. You start off by seeing a nice little story intro and then go right into the game. It seems to play out more like a story to start with but you do eventually get to the stage select type screens as before (not in the same way as the first). The first thing I noticed when let loose at the controls was the little blighter sure could jump higher than the first, which was great! I hope I’m not alone at getting a little annoyed at how low the jumping was in LocoRoco.

Another little change, but if you remember the points where you bust up into lots of little loco’s to activate a special event, you would normally sit back and watch. Now they have added a little button bashing while the event runs through. Much like a guitar hero type thing where you hit the blank notes as a coloured one passes through. It doesn’t impact the event at all, but the more you hit on key, the more notes you collect. Yes thats right, something else to collect, which when you get enough, gives you a level bonus for collecting those little purple thingies.

Similar to the first game, there are different Loco’s and house parts to collect, so a big thumbs up for those who like to collect.

The game itself plays very much like the first with a few new little twists and turns thrown in. Even the music was the same as the first… well at least it sounded the same, but come on… that’s one of the things we love about the game. Soon enough you will be humming along even after you have put the game down. Its simple design makes for lovely smooth gameplay, and to be honest the graphics don’t need to be anything more than it already is.
As much as it is like the first i’m sure any previous owner would love this game. That being said if you do own the first, I’m not sure there is enough new stuff to warrant a full price purchase. On the other hand, if you’ve finished the first and all it does is take up space and collect dust, a trade in would be right on the cards to save a few bucks! (What with money being tight all around the world right now.)
If you’re new to the game, then nows a great time to get into it, with its simple controls and it’s great for picking up and putting down when you’ve only got a spare five to get some gaming in. Although you might want to put the headphones on/in if you’re in a public place. As great as the music is, it could turn a would-be friendly bystander into a raving looney what with its high pitched repetative cutesy music.
All in all I think it’s a great game, and although I have yet to get all the way through it, what I’ve seen makes me want to play even more.
Overall I’ll give this a very good: 7/10
