First Attempt

Last week I was looking through Lifehacker at some of the desktops they feature and stumbled over a link to a program called Samurize.  First off, it seemed like something I had tried before (Rainmeter) and wasn’t so impressed with.

What does it do? Well to put it simply, It shows you information you want, where you want.  What information depends on you, it could be system information or the weather.

What impressed me right off the bat, was the fact it included its own editor which really does let you tweak all the little doo dads with ease. Even if your not technically minded you could figure it out, as most of it is just click and drag.

Still interested ? Hit the read more link for more including a sample config I whipped up and am currently using!

2nd Attempt My very first attempt at creating a config was very easy indeed.  I tested that PNG transparency was passed on, and was happy to find it was.  So you can create a fancy looking design and keep all your transparency.  You can see my first attempt at the top of this post and the 2nd to the right.

A neat feature is that you can dock your design to the desktop, or have it on top of everything so it always shows, or even let it pass the clicks through so if it covers something you can still click what is under it.

One of my favorite features is the fact it can run scripts!  So, for me this was great as I whipped up a few VB scripts to gather some extra info, like the local weather and the process which is hogging up the most ram.

Sounds good ? why not give it a go!  Head on over to the Samurize Website to download the program.  Did I mention it’s free!?

Oh and here is a sample config I whipped up in a few minutes.  Simple Config
Configs get saved in the Program Files\Samurize\configs folder so just stuff it there and it will be available from the Samurize menu.

Let us know how you get on or if you have a alternative application which can do the same or better!
