Fashion All righty, trying out a new article theme called On The Hanger, which basically points out certain similar outfits that a group of video game characters happen to be wearing.  Calling upon the girly side of me stuffed in a dark corner of my inner self, I’ll (hopefully) make this a constant and ongoing article type.

So, hit the jump and let’s find out who I managed to scrounge up.

The first wardrobe style I thought up was Overalls.  I know, should’ve started with something more easy and mainstream, but for some reason, I made it hard on myself to find a bunch of characters wearing this style of clothing.

Now, not to be confused with coveralls (the more jumpsuit-y offshoot) or just plain pants with suspenders (also called braces in England), I managed to track down five VG folks wearing this fashion

BrickManEarthbound

Meet Mr. Brick Man a strange carpenter looking fellow who actually wants to be some sort of Dungeon Master.  Sporting a sort of blue-green overall with white button set, looks like they’ll be needing a wash in a bit.  You’ll find him in Earthbound (Mother 2 in Japan), a most excellent SNES game that’s become a hit with its fan base.

AppleKidEarthbound

Another denizen of Earthbound, meet Apple Kid, an inventor with a less-than-best reputation in his town (At least compared to Orange Kid).  But don’t let this rotund kid fool you.  Underneath the stretchy fabric and gold buttons, he’s got a few useful inventions waiting for an intrepid hero to fund.

SnowBros

Here are the Snow Brothers, Nick and Tom, flashing blue and red overalls and not much else.  You’d think just running around in skimpy overalls would be rather chilling, but considering these two are walking snowmen, I guess there’s no need for coats and parkas.

Alex

Next up is Alex of Street Fighter III fame, a tough and rumble brawler with a wicked horizontal chop.  He’s sporting military green overalls, and being the studly show off that he is, isn’t wearing them conventionally, opting to go with the no straps support look.  I’m sure he figures, if he can’t win a fight by combat, the glare of his masculine buttocks when the opponent accidentally pulls down his pants will work just as well.

HarvestMoon02

Oh Harvest Moon, how I adore you so.  For some reason, menial task labors with seed and dirt and barnyard critters can be so entertaining.  Denim seems to be a favorite when working out in the fields and if it isn’t a kerchief and jeans, you can be sure to find some denim overalls as the next best choice for the up and coming village-saving farmer.

Mario01

And here we have the main fashion maven, the bushy mustachio-ed man who’s made overalls iconic wear for princess-saving plumbers (and their alter egos) everywhere.  Mario Mario, hasn’t sported much of a wardrobe change over the years, and that’s not necessarily a bad thing.  It just wouldn’t feel  like a proper Mario game without him sporting the buttoned up blue and red (and lest we forget Luigi with his green getup).

Bonus

WoW00

I tried to stay away from MMOs, seeing as characters there tend to swap wardrobes constantly, but I couldn’t help but throw in the World of Warcraft blue overalls; garb that’s far removed from the adventurer look.  How many heros do you know slay dragons looking like they came from the Harvest Moon farm?

Tune in again next time to find out what’s next On The Hanger!
