TwitterTHAll righty, been a while since I posted, so I guess it’s time for another obligatory ramble.

So, we’re nearing YetiKitn’s first blog-aversary.  Kind of snuck up on us.  We’re hoping for another redesign unveil around then, but don’t hold your breath.  Trying to stick with one layout we like is like trying to find a needle in a haystack.. on mars.

But anyhoo, time marches on, we’re forging ahead and we did manage to finally get around to trying out this Twitter fad.  We still don’t get it really.  It’s like a glorified diary, but instead of trying to hide it away so your friends don’t peek at your latest crush, you’re practically throwing it out to the public to get them to read every minute detail of your life you care to ‘tweet’ about.

Granted, it’s a lot easier to condense a thought down into 140 characters than it is to write a blasted article or blog, so I may get into it a lot easier than I have blogging.  Ah well, we’ll see how that ends up, shall we?

In other news…

Code CornerIts been a week or so since I’ve added to the Code Corner so today’s entry is a small, simple but useful script for shutting down a Windows PC using VBS and WMI.

A good use for this script is to shutdown all PC’s on a domain or shutdown a room by OU.  The possibilites are endless!

Enjoy!

strPCName = "Computer_Name"

set colOS = getobject("winmgmts:{impersonationlevel=impersonate,(shutdown)}//" & strPCName).instancesof("win32_operatingsystem")
For each objOS in colOS
objOS.win32shutdown(1)

Welcome To Wintergrasp: Population - You!

I haven’t been in to Wintergrasp since patch day, but last night I had gotten the bits I had wanted to do (mainly a rep grind) out the way and thought, what the hell, let’s go do some Wintergrasp.  I turned up to the portal 15 minutes early and saw nobody else was there! No shouts going out at all.  So I waited more, still nothing, 5 minutes to go and still nothing!  Eventually the portal opens and all on my lonesome I head on in.

Right off the bat I had 20 tenacity.  After about 5 minutes we actually had a group going which topped out at 5 members… thats right it wasn’t even big enough to warrant turning into a raid!

Despite it being 5 vs 40+ (no idea on actual count, but there was plenty of em) I did manage to get 2 weekly quests done but it was an obvious loss.

My only hope is that this doesn’t turn into a more common trend.  One of the best PvP options in the game has become nothing more than a barren wasteland! Please say it ain’t so Blizzard!

How’s Wintergrasp running on your server? Is it barren or is it still going on as normal ? Let us know!

Get Off Me Gold!Doing my daily scan over the interwebs today, I read the article over at WoW Insider which gaves tips on making gold by mining Saronite and either selling in bar or ore form.  Which got me to thinking maybe I should spill how I make my gold.

Now I know most of you out there are looking for the “how do I make mega amounts of gold like now!” guide but the truth is, there is no such thing! Effort in = reward.  No matter which way you spin it, it’s going to take time and effort on your part.

Still here? That means you’ve gotten over the shock of not maxing your gold out right away.

Ok, the first thing is, you need to be patient.  If the area of the market your trying to make money from is saturated, you need to hold off selling right now and just stockpile.  Move on to another area or just keep stashing it away.

For now we can assume we are talking about Saronite.  The price of ore/bars will always fluctuate, theres nothing we can do about that.  The trick is, to find the right time to sell, just like the stock market.  If the current market is flooded we can sell at a somewhat loss or, if we hold off, we can hit our margin when there is not so much on sale.

If your target market is flooded and isn’t looking like any change we can always look to our friends.  In this case as we are talking about Saronite, find your jewelcrafting friend and get them to prospect it for you.  You have then shifted from one market to another.  Again if that market is flooded, get the gems made in to socketable gems, once again shifting to another market.

The main tip I can give is to not rush into selling.  Keep a careful eye on your market and if your not happy with the current price of your stuff, then hold off.

Dont neglect your dailies either! They may not be massive amounts of gold, but just by simply doing the fishing, cooking and 2-3 other dailies, those will land you in the area of 50gold.  Keep that up every day and you will be netting 350 a week! (1000g+ a month) See how something little can add up ?

Last piece of advice I can give is, pretty much everything is of value to someone out there!  Random greens can easily net you double the vendor price!  Even I get a little lazy to run to the AH which is why I have my rogue stationed at Undercity ready to sell and collect my profits.

If you’ve got the character space, make that spare character and use it as an AH mule.  Send things over to him/her as they will be permanently parked in the AH.

I know it may not seem like a big deal, but for me it is!  It’s previous incarnation “NYAN Raid Target” didn’t reach that many downloads over just a week and yet YKTarget seems to be completely different and receiving quite a warm welcome over at WoW Interface hitting 200 downloads!

On a side note, the tiny program Addon Versions is seeing a few downloads which is totally more than I expected.  It just shows alot of people out there are still totally into manual updates of addons! (Like the Kitn)

Thanks to all those who gave it a go and comments and suggestions are always welcome!

Look out for the upcoming version with skins coming soon!

fishing-thAll right, so at the moment, my little cow is on a mad fishing grind, still hoping to get lucky and nab a sea turtle.  I’m still way under leveled, but I’m optimistic (or just too lazy to admit defeat) that I’ll nab that turtle soon.

Anyhoo, I was told of a contest going on for Warcraftpets about making some ad banners for some tasty prizes.  I won’t show what I’ve tried to make till after the contest, but I’m crossing my fingers since the pets are drool worthy for me.

So yes, here’s this contest and since I needed some pictures to use, I decided to look towards the WoW Model Viewer.  I had played with a similar program back in the days when I made FFIX signatures for folks in forums (I’ll have to post those up one day).

Now.. with WoW accounts, I know it’s scary to start poking around with programs that access files and whatnot, but I’ll put trust that the WoW Wiki would not try to steer me astray and make me lose my account to thugs and thieves.  I looked up the viewer through their page, so if you’re brave enough to try it, here’s the link.

Anyhoo, I was looking through there for some piccys when I happened across some very interesting fishing bobbers.  You know the plain original one is quite all right and functional, but if these bobbers I happened to find were ever released for players, I’d suspect it’d make fishing slightly more bearable.  With different bobbers, you could at least have a better chance of not being confused as to which was yours (especially in Dalaran fountain).  I hope to look forward to them in future patches.

Hit the jump and check those cuties out!

Addon Versions is a small application I wrote for Kitn and I. Its sole purpose is to just show you what WoW addons you have installed, what version they are, and what interface version it was made for.  With all the hoohaa lately about the addon updaters I recently went back to doing manual updates, so this program is made to make the manual updater’s life a tad bit easier.

With a click of a button it will sit on top of all other windows (i.e. your web browser) so while your looking for the downloads you can still see the list.

I know people are a little warey of programs which go anywhere near the WoW folder so I am releasing the source for all to see.  And will disclose exactly what the program does.

So Mountain Dew is supposed to be doing a special promotion with Blizzard using the Mountain Dew Game Fuel drinks.  There’s special prizes to be given away and talk of a special in-game pet.

Well, I went there to check today, and there was a countdown.  I managed to pop in later when the countdown was about to finish and was treated to this fail sight:

TimerFail

Yeah…  looks like someone’s getting fired.  That, or someone needs to brush up on their site programming skills again.  Ah well, guess it’s the waiting game to see what the whole deal is about seeing as they don’t sell those drinks (as far as I know) around our neck of the woods.

Update: Hit the jump to see more screenshots as time passes and site admins scramble!

YKT Example 1Well today I finally got the finishing touches worked out on my newest addon and thought I would share it with you all!

It’s actually a re-make of one of my early addons NYAN Raid Target which had many flaws both in programming and functionality.

Since stepping back and taking a fresh look at i’ve learnt a few tricks which I hope has made it a much better addon for all to use.

Head on over to its very own page right here where you can check it out and download it.  Or if you prefer you can head over to WoWInterface and get it from there

Ever get those boring days at work? Nothing much going on, but you just cant get your game on ?

Why don’t the publishers out there create web-based mini games for us!  Ya know like many of the games out there but it sends gold or whatever currency characters from your favorite games and MMOs.

Fable had somewhat of a system like that.  Before the game released, there were mini-games available through the arcade that would let a player make money for their character.  Imagine, a system like that to earn money for your character when you don’t have the ability to be around in game to grind, but still have the time to waste.

That way at least we wont be wasting time when we aren’t doing anything to begin with!

Ahhhh those crazy hump day ideas!
