PS3: Life But Not As We Know It
The Kitn heard about this Playstation Life and we decided to download it and give it a try. First of all, you have to download Folding@home, which is some medical research thing, kind of like seti@home if anyone remembers that.
First impressions were “Oooo Shiney” when I saw the nice visual earth spinning around and thought it was neat how you could zoom in and out on the earth, see weather, but only for major cities. Let’s take England for example: All it gives you is London’s weather. Now if you live in Scotland that info is about as useful as a chocolate tea pot, but there you go, that’s all your getting, now move along.
It does try and give you some news for each country, but we found when clicking on a news topic (some form of mini browser pops up) that the text on a standard definition tv was unreadable.
So all in all, it makes a nice spinning globe come up on your screen, but thats about as useful as it gets. Compared to the Wii’s news and weather features it has a few steps to take before I will bother to load it up again.

Theres alot of buzz at the moment with the recent update for the Wii that it’s killing off the zelda homebrew hack and also the freeloader. It’s only a small update with no real features being added (save for being able to place some Miis in the Mii parade that no one bothers to play with anymore) so it could just be a fix from Nintendo to “try” and put a stop to the homebrew & any region playing.
