So here is to hoping you all have a awesome 2010 and a awesome but safe night!

I’ve not been developing much lately but I have at least managed to make sure YKTarget is working ok in patch 3.3 and have updated the addon  accordingly.

I have also removed downloads of YKTarget from YetiKitn.com and all updates will be held at WoWInterface… It’s just too much hastle making sure all download locations are up to date.

Ahhh time to snooze!

All right, so I haven’t exactly been blogging up a storm these past couple of weeks… months…  you get the idea.  So I’ve installed an addon to Firefox which might help me get back into the swing of blog.  I remember seeing an article on Lifehacker about this Scribefire addon for Firefox.  No need for external programs, just blog it and go.

So far, it’s pretty nifty, though it’s missing a few touches that Windows Live Writer had.  Things like the ready-to-use frames for pictures and saving constantly used links for articles is missed.  But having everything else here in splitscreen or a new tab, ready to be blogged in is rather handy.  Not too fond of the extra tabs I don’t use, such as the monetize stuff, but everything else is a perk.

Ah well.. we’ll see how this goes.  If anything, I can always suck it up and install Live Writer again.    And hey.. if it gets me writing/blogging again, can’t be all that bad, can it?

Drawn by KitnWell, it’s that time of year again, so a very merry Christmas and Happy New Year to one and all that pass by!
And woooo, what a Christmas its been! Watching the Kitn tearing into her presents and me doing the same.  Getting stuffed on turkey and tasty treats.  Such an awesome time of the year to sit back, relax and get your gaming on.

Speaking of gaming, I’m currently floating around in EVE Online mining-and-selling in the massive universe it is.  It sure is a pretty game with lots of things going on which is helping me pass the time until FFXIV.  I will get around to posting about it at some point, but with the wealth of info about the game already out there on other websites and even the EVE Online official website, I’m not sure what I can offer apart from my experiences of starting up and how I managed the huge learning curve.

Anyhoo, back to kicking back and relaxing with the Kitn.

We hope santa braught you all kinds of cool and crazy gadgets and games this Christmas!

So, Merry Christmas from the Yeti and Kitn!!

Its been super crazy busy lately, but now it’s time for a lil babble.

So, about this Aion business, did you try it? I sure did, and as it happens I managed to clip my wings (cancel my subscription) before having to pay for another month.  It’s not that I hated it, it just wasn’t for me.  The heavy grind and not really feeling connected to anything in the game, the characters, and the community just wasn’t memorable.

As it turns out, the Kitn actually played it more than me as we decided to share an account for dipping our toes in to see how it was.  In the end though, it was time to clip the wings as we really didn’t want to pay for it.

All in all, it would make a great F2P but it just didn’t do much for us seeing how it was a subscription based game.  Oh, and don’t get me started on the customer service or lack of.

If you’re looking for a grind / gank fest then maybe this game is for you! Otherwise it’s time to keep on looking for that next game.

In other news, we’ve both been super busy with work and other stuffs like birthdays and getting some early Christmas shopping in.

Oh! and a Wiki is being setup as a little code base for all kinds of scripties so do keep an eye out for that!  (Seeing as alot of our silent visitors head on over to our articles about WoW programming ;) )

Last but not least, a big *WAVE* to our sis over in Hawaii! Hope you guys are doing well and glad you found our little spot on the intercobwebs!

Were you tempted to try Aion ? I was! I loaded up my pre-order special edition and was all ready to rock when the headstart gave way.  I did manage to get on when it opened up, but today I get to see the horror that others have been talking about.  I got home around 7pm-ish to be welcomed with the following after logging in…

Aion0000

Now I’m a reasonably patient guy, but where do you draw the line!? 7pm + 5 hours = zzZ zzZ.  Some of us do actually need to work in order to pay for our gaming habits, and starting off a gaming session at midnight isn’t quite the best time of the day for most people.

I can only hope that this is just a teething problem.  Quoting from NCSoft “Total server limits will be increased once we see that server populations balance out.” I hope that limit is in the 1000’s as my queue isn’t the largest I’ve seen kicking around fan sites today.

Some people have shown their disgust on the official forums mentioning cancelling already.  As extreme as this may seem, I too can see the reasoning for giving it the boot, especially if I can only play from midnight onwards.  Time can only tell.

Do you have long wait times ?  How do you pass the time ?

(Btw, the other fubar NCSoft/Steam had was that I didn’t have time to go out and pre-order the Collector’s Edition from a store, so I thought of getting it online through Steam.  Turns out, they can’t even give out the proper codes/extra online goodies till after the game has launched.  Headstart my arse…)

For a few days now I’ve had a small chunk of my car key sitting around in the ignition after it went and broke on me at the gas station.  I have tried to get the little bugger out, but not having the right tools for the job it managed to stay snug in the key hole.

Today I get a email reply from a locksmith with a quote to come and remove it…. £75 + vat he says.  Thats about £86.25!  Now being faced with the prospect of having to shell out a pretty hefty sum for what seems to be such a silly little matter got me motivated to get that sucker out!

In the end all it took was my dad and an awesome set of tweezers!

All this got me to thinking… what does it take for you to get motivated?  Would the prospect of having to shell out hard earned cash get you up and about for something which seems simple?

Oh, and as a little note, I have released another WoW addon.  Maelstrom (for Shamans only) will give a visual on your current Maelstrom Weapon buff and also let you know when your shield is down!  Sound good? Well head on over to WoW Interface to snag the download.

(Kitn:  Motivation?  Eventually I’ll get motivated to get a blog post in here, but man!  I’ve finally gotten back into working and there’s a big difference in motivation when you’ve come back from a long day.  At the end of it all, I definitely don’t feel like sitting up at a computer writing.  I just want to curl up in bed (after making and eating dinner).  If it wasn’t for the firewalls (since it’s a school), I’d totally write something while on the job.. but I guess I wouldn’t be working if I did, right?  Ah well..  I’ll catch up with some writing eventually!)

Creating a Frame in XML can be a long winded process, especially when you see how little it takes to create one using LUA.

Let’s get to it!  Here is a sample LUA showing how to create a Frame:

MyFrame = CreateFrame("Frame","MyFrame",UIParent)
MyFrame:SetPoint("CENTER",0,0)
MyFrame:SetWidth(200)
MyFrame:SetHeight(200)

See how easy that was? What we have done here is created a frame with the name MyFrame and setting its parent to the UIParent.

If your addon isn’t going to hook it to anything else, then it’s best to set the UIParent as the parent frame. After we set its anchor, using the SetPoint function, to the Center with an offset (X & Y) of both 0. We then set the Width and Height both to 200. Now you wont actually see anything as we haven’t changed any colours or set any textures, but the frame will be there.

Phew, it’s been a busy few weeks for the Kitn and I what with the Kitn coming to work with me so there has been little time to post after we get home, fed, get our gaming on etc.

I also have another lil’ project in the works which is coming along nicely but I wont be spilling any beans just yet, I would like to get it pretty much complete before sharing this one (I will say it’s not game related though).

I would like to mention Dawn Of War II though, I picked up a copy on a whim seeing as it was going fairly cheap on Play.com for £14.99 (not sure if it still is or not) and it was a pleasant surprise to find it was a really good game! I’ve not touched the multi-player really, I did do a quick LAN game against a CPU player to find out how it works (resource control).  But I must say the single player so far is where its at for me! even the Kitn has gotten in on the action!

Anyoo, it’s a 3 day weekend here so it is time to get our relaxing on!

In case you were hiding under a rock the past week or so, Blizzcon kicked off with a massive bang announcing the 3rd WoW expansion which you can read all about at the official website or over at WoW.com (or one of the many many other sites which have been talking about that stuffs).

Happy gaming folks! Back soon :D

YKTarget
Just a lil note to let people out there that we have updated YKTarget.

Not a huge update, just some bug fixes and making sure everything is all good for patch 3.2.

As usual you can download from the YKTarget page or over at WoW Interface.

Enjoy! :)
